If you can make sound, you can participate!
Discover the joy of making music together in a fun, welcoming, and creative environment!
The School of American Music is excited to introduce Sound Circle, a unique, interactive music experience led by singer/songwriter Patti Shaffner, recently featured at SAM's Jazz Fest.
Sound Circle is all about creating music together in the moment through vocal improvisation. One person starts with a simple sound, rhythm, or melody, and others join in, adding their own voices to create something entirely new. There's no sheet music, no rehearsals, and no performance to prepare for — just people, sounds, and creativity!
You don't need to know how to sing, read music, or have any musical experience whatsoever. All you need is a willingness to participate, explore your creativity, and connect with others through music.

This special introductory session is an opportunity to experience Sound Circle firsthand, meet new people, and discover just how much fun spontaneous music-making can be — with no obligation to continue.
We're also exploring the possibility of offering a six-week Sound Circle program beginning in January 2027, and this introductory gathering will help us gauge community interest.
Come as you are. Bring your voice. Leave with a smile!
Sound Circle is part of the School of American Music's commitment to making music accessible, inspiring creativity, and building connections throughout our community.
