SAM Performance Scholarship May 6
On Tuesday, May 6, the School of American Music awarded its first <your name here> Performance Scholarship for $1,000 to Lindsey Lange, a graduating senior at River Valley High School. She sang “Climb Every Mountain” from Sound of Music, accompanied by Mrs. Adrian Cole; she then performed on piano her own instrumental arrangement of “Timber” – a current pop tune that she re-harmonized into a jazzy composition.
Two independent judges – Charlie Moore and Bill Bielby — rated the performances according to technical mastery, technical difficulty, and artistic expression.
The name of the award is the School of American Music <your name here> Performance Scholarship. Right now the scholarship is funded on a year-to-year basis by an anonymous donor but the hope is that someone who believes in supporting music will endow this scholarship on an ongoing basis; in which case, they get to choose the name that goes with the scholarship.
