About SAM


The School of American Music (SAM) and the Three Oaks Arts and Education Center (A&E Center) Three Oaks Township Public Library Building have emerged in the burgeoning arts scene in the Village of Three Oaks, Michigan. Three Oaks Public Library BuildingThis area has long had a musical and artistic culture with strong links to many styles of American music, arts, and crafts. 

Now residents can grow their musical skills with high quality, affordable instruction. Lessons in Guitar, Piano, Violin, Banjo, Bass, Mandolin, and Voice are offered to kids, teens, and adults at SAM. A variety of other arts offerings are now available through the A&E Center, keep an eye on our new class offerings.   

TThe arts organizations were founded by area resident Garth Taylor who long admired the musical education done by the Old Town School of Music in Chicago.

SAM started with one student in April 2012 — and now serves over 100 students per year. Nearly one-third of the music students are on scholarship due to the generous support of several donors. SAM is located on the second floor of the Three Oaks Township Public Library building — 3 N. Elm Street

The Three Oaks Arts and Education Center now occupies what was formerly the Three Oaks Village Hall – which has been made over into a versatile and attractive facility.  A&E Center opened its doors to lessons early in 2015 and already boasts over a dozen weekly classes in arts as varied as Photography, Yoga, Tai Chi, Community Choir, Music Ensemble, and Electronic Music Production. Special activities for teens are being developed.  A&E Center has benefited from a recent grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The A&E Center’s new facility is located at 14 Maple Street, Three Oaks.
